Flag off ceremony of Bio Diesel blend usage at Tata Projects Meerat-Garmukteswar Roads project site

Date: April 12th, 2023: Tata Projects Ltd successfully flagged off the use of biodiesel at their Kithaur project site near Meerat(Meerat-Garmukteshwar Roads project) on the 6th of April 2023.

The biodiesel, produced from used cooking oil by a first-in-the-world proprietary room temperature process, is added as a blending component at five percent level to the diesel used in construction equipment. Tata Projects intends to replicate this successful application to other major construction sites across the country, and further plans to use drop-in Green Diesel, which – unlike biodiesel – can fully replace fossil-based diesel in construction equipment and generators. Technologies for production of the clean fuels – room temperature biodiesel and Green Diesel – has been developed indigenously by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research -Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP).

This event marks a significant step in Tata Projects’ journey to decarbonize the hard-to-abate engineering and construction industry. As a Nation Builder, we are proud to associate ourselves with some of the most significant infrastructure projects in India, yet, in line with India’s ambitious Net Zero targets, Tata Projects would like to minimize the impact on the planet, as India builds its thriving tomorrow.

“Tata Group has set a challenging Net Zero 2045 target, and Tata project is fully committed to this vision. As Tata, we want to be pioneers and set benchmarks for the engineering and construction industry. I am proud of our association with CSIR-IIP, and using clean energy at our construction sites is one of the various innovative and technology driven initiatives we are undertaking at Tata Projects.” said Vinayak Pai, Managing Director of Tata Projects

Dr. Anjan Ray, Director CSIR-IIP said that “The Institute is privileged to be associated with Tata Projects for these decarbonisation initiatives and with the sustainability efforts of the Tata Group generally. We look forward to moving the needle quickly in this partnership towards attainment of the Company’s, Groups and Nation’s net-zero goals.”

The Tata Sustainability Group (TSG), which serves as a Centre of Excellence and nodal resource on sustainability for Tata group companies, had co-ordinated an MOU between Tata Projects and CSIR-IIP in December 2022, and various successful technology applications are being jointly developed for Tata Projects sites.
