The Dravyavati River Project aims at rejuvenating the waters of the Dravyavati River, which has now crippled in the form of the Amanisha Nala. The Nala, currently carrying tons of garbage and sewage waste, runs across the pink city from the Jaisalya Village and the Dhund River. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has given this contract to a consortium of Tata Projects Limited and Shanghai Urban Construction group, and is expected to be completed by October, 2018.
For over a century, the Dravyavati River has been deteriorating into a nala which is increasingly becoming the cause of widespread water-borne diseases like chikungunya and dengue. The infertile, and rather hazardous water damages underwater ecosystems, ruins soil gradients of the land and makes it prone to floods. Moreover, the Amanisha Nala runs a distance of 47 Kms and ruins the look of the beautiful pink city.
Apart from the amortization of 170 MLD polluted water, the Dravyavati River Project will see more than 100 fall structures constructed to ensure seamless water supply throughout the year. With more than 16,000 trees planted and 65,000 square meters green area developed under this project, the Dravyavati River bank will soon become a lure to people seeking solitude or refreshment in the city. Around 180 acres of land will be transformed in terms of commercial development, along with several real estate projects, MNCs, etc. opening up in the newly reclaimed places. More than 120 acres of land will be left for government use.
